There are a number of accommodations (helpful teaching strategies) that I use in math and science in order for your child to be successful. When working with your child, I diligently try to ensure I have recorded the help your child received (if they needed any). This helps you to know the level of support your child received on his/her assignments. In order to expedite the note-taking efforts, I use the following abbreviations to record the strategies used. I also input these strategies into Skyward when I am recording grades. Unfortunately, you do not see them through your parent access; hence you may find see some of the following on your child’s work.
R/R=reteach & retest
RTSOT=Reminders to stay on task
OA=oral administration (I read the assignment to them)
OA-ASR=oral administration at student request
SG=small group (your child was pulled into a small group to complete the assignment)
VA=visual aids
TA=teacher assistance (was needed)
ET=extended time
CFU=check for understanding
Scribe=the assignment was orally responded to & I recorded the student’s answer
UT=untimed
PA=peer assistance
IP=independent practice
GW=group work
*Please note that if your child is receiving accommodations, you will receive RTI (Response to Intervention) paperwork each 9 weeks so that you are aware of the overall accommodations your child receives.
I will be providing a detailed link of websites for students to explore this year. Here is one that lists a number of websites for practicing math facts. look over them to see which websties would be best for your child.
Also, please note that there are a TON of FREE apps available for electronic devices! When I ask students to practice their facts, I do not mind whether it is the "old school" flash cards...I just know they enjoy the use of technology!
